apply using Skyward, you must
log-in to your Skyward Family
Access account, and follow the
appropriate steps to complete the
application in the food service
tab. Families may also apply
online through COMPASS at
www.compass.state.pa.us, which
also allows Pennsylvanians to apply
for social service programs such as
Food Stamps, Temporary
Assistance for Needy Families,
Energy Assistance, Children’s
Health Insurance Program, etc. at
the same time. Once the
Household Meal Benefit Application
is submitted, it will be processed as
soon as possible and you will
receive an approval/denial letter in
the mail stating the status of the
application. Please note that any
balance accrued prior to your
family being approved for benefits
is your responsibility. Remember,
families may apply for free or
reduced meal benefits at any time
during the school year. If you
applied at the beginning of the
school year and were initially
denied, but now have a decrease in
household income, increase in
household size, become
unemployed, or begin receiving
food stamps or temporary
assistance, you may be eligible.
When Will Meal Benefits Begin?
Benefits will begin when your
application is approved and you
receive notice of acceptance. A
notification letter of approval or denial
will be mailed to your home. You are
responsible for paying for meals
until your application is approved.
Once approved, your free or reduced
meal information will automatically be
programmed into your child’s lunch
account in the point-of-sale system
and will remain confidential. If eligible
for free or reduced meals, your child
is allowed one breakfast and one
